Hey, Ron --|
I've been meaning to ask...Do you ever go see The Stone Coyotes? I understand they play a lot around Boston. (If not, you may want to check them out. I think they must be really good live.)
Back in the '70's, when I first heard Barbara Keith's version of "All Along the Watchtower" on the radio, I made a detour, getting off the freeway & driving straight to my favorite record store...Found the album (already rare & $30 as I recall) & loved it (ok, almost all) -
Not long after, the store owner (very reliable source) told me he'd heard she'd recently died, which saddened me, & after that, as you'd expect, I stopped checking for new releases...(smart woman, huh?) Well...
A few weeks ago, I finally found a CD of BK's first album on eBay -- after a lot of searching. Next, I find out she's ALIVE, & after many years, playing again in a band (The Stone Coyotes) with her husband & stepson on bass & drums. I impulsively ordered all 3 CD's on the spot...
Just heard "Church of the Falling Rain" for the first time & was immediately delighted with it. A lot more straight-out LOUD rock than most cuts on her first album (largely folk-rock). I'm now listening to "Situation Out of Control" -- happy again! (Though somewhat less w/the title track) She's still a good, strong singer/songwriter & lead guitar player -- One interviewer compared her singing to Grace's -- I can hear some resemblance, but not a strong one (voice not as full & rich, singing not as free/playful -- but still powerful & expressive).
Anyway, this is an awfully long post if you don't know them or don't like them. On the other hand, if you or anyone else out there HAS heard them live, I'd love to hear about it. From their website, it doesn't look as if they venture too far from home...
