There's a drum circle every Sunday night around sunset on Treasure Island Beach (check out the website http://tidrums.tripod.com). I haven't been to one yet but have been wanting to go, just haven't found the time. A really nice nature park with a cool trail in St. Pete is Boyd Hill Nature Park (http://www.stpete.org/nature.htm). Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa is a laid back blues bar (www.skipperssmokehouse.com). Of course there's the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Pete, and the beaches. A good idea would be to pick up a copy of the Weekly Planet alternative newspaper, which you can find at just about any bar or head shop. They have pretty complete listings of what's going on in the Tampa Bay area. Their website is www.weeklyplanet.com. Also, be sure to tune in to WMNF 88.5 FM, a wonderful non-commercial community radio station, especially on Tuesday nights from 7-9 PM, when disc jockey Dead Head Ed is on and plays great stuff, including live Grateful Dead tapes at 8 PM. They play different kinds of music at different times. Their "Sixties Show" on Saturday from noon to 2 PM is good, too. You can check out their schedule at www.wmnf.org. I believe they broadcast over the internet also, but since my only access to the internet is at work & the library (no sound), I know very little about that.
