I guess it was a question of time before WNEW went the way of WFMU, WLIR, WPLJ, WWOR, WPIX, and other legendary FM radio stations.  WPIX's parent company WPIX - TV in 1970 experimented with a simulcast broadcast on Saturday nights.  They would play a video lightshow on TV and you could tune into WPIX-FM for the stereo radio broadcast.  Experimental TV & radio that predates MTV by eleven years.

Anyone who lived in the tristate and listened to WNEW during the early 70's will have fond memories of Allison Steele the Nightbird (10:00PM to 2:00AM Mon - Fri).  She is the Goddess of FM radio during its Golden Age.  The sultry voice, poetry readings, and her evening show set to the theme of the opening poem of the night is not forgotten by those who listened to and remember her show.
