Talking of cities of heroes - I saw a documentary about Chernobyl recently - they had film of guys hiding behind a lead shield and running out to shovel one shovel worth of radioactive stuff. They could only stand 30secs exposure. |
They knew that they would die from what they were doing, but they were there and someone had to do it. The looks on their faces as they waited their turn will always be with me.
I remember also - In England there is a village called Eyam where they got the plague in the 1600s from a box of clothes from London. The people drew a line around the village and no-one entered or left it - more than half the village died - but they didn't spread the plague.
