OK, Robert, I was sorta teasing about Bruce.

Even Mick Jagger strummed a few real chords on the last Stones tour (on Moonlight Mile, for example).

And Marty Balin's guitar playing, though infrequent, is certainly for real--unlike the mid-1970s, when I swear he wasn't even plugged in, just prancing around with it around his neck.

The worst offender was Peter Wolf of the J. Geils Band, who posed with a--I am not making this up--rubber guitar prop.  It was supposed to be a joke, but to anybody who strives to play the guitar, it was an insult.  Watching this fake guitar flopping around in his hands while the real musicians jammed. (it was a multi-act show--I wouldn't have paid ten cents to see that band...)

Did you ever see the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame broadcast on HBO a few years back?  Jerry Lee Lewis was leading a jam and was nodding towards Springsteen to take a lead break.  Bruce was caught off guard and couldn't pull it off (just coz he wasn't expecting it).  He laughed.  It was pretty funny and he handled the situation gracefully.

Terry
